Results of the MedSafer Study: Deprescribing Trials and Tribulations
Dr. McDonald will present the MedSafer Study which tested a software that guided clinicians through the process of deprescribing for older adults with polypharmacy during an acute care hospitalization. The webinar will present the results of the MedSafer study, the largest randomized controlled trial of deprescribing (5698 participants), along with lessons learned from the conduct of the study and future directions.

Dr. Emily McDonald
Associate Professor @McGill University Health Center
Dr. Emily McDonald is an Associate Professor of Medicine, subspecialist in General Internal Medicine, Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, and Associate Chair of Quality and Safety for the McGill University Department of Medicine. She is the Scientific Director of the Canadian Medication Appropriateness and Deprescribing Network. Dr. McDonald completed an MSc in Epidemiology, postgraduate training in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and the Program in Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. She has authored over 130 manuscripts on the appropriate use of tests and treatments and the lead author of the MedSafer study.
